Introduction: Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a neurodegenerative disease that affects the upper and lower motor neurons. It manifests with progressive weakness and has no cure. Patients die from loss of movement of the respiratory muscles. The revised functional classification scale for ALS is used to assess the progression of symptoms and determines the loss of the ability to perform activities of daily living and how dependent state increases. Objectives: To describe the characteristics of the Mexicanpatient with ALS, as well as their level of functionality. Methods: A total of patients with ALS were enrolled. Data was collected through an identification form and the revised ALS Functional Rating Scale. Results: The mean score obtained in the ALSFRS-R was 28.3 ± 10.3. 72% of the patients received care from 4 to 5 different health professionals. Conclusion: This study demonstrates the importance to identify by means of the scale the level of function in patients with ALS and also give a treatment program to maintain the functional capabilities of the patient.
